Security forces have arrested 15 people suspected of involvement in militant attacks on police and army facilities in the Egyptian peninsula of Sinai, a security source told Anadolu Agency on Wednesday.
The suspects – eight Egyptians and seven Palestinians - were all arrested in the North Sinai city of Arish, the source said.
Among the detainees are "criminal elements recruited by armed groups to carry out attacks against security agencies in Sinai," the source said, noting that they were moved to Cairo for interrogation.
The arrests came two days after 25 policemen were killed and two injured in an attack in North Sinai.
The incident was the deadliest of its kind since August of last year, when 16 Egyptian border guards were killed in an attack by unidentified gunmen at a border checkpoint near the North Sinai city of Rafah.
Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, which shares borders with both Israel and the Palestinian Gaza Strip, has seen almost daily attacks by unknown assailants since ousted President Mohamed Morsi's July 3 overthrow by the military.Güncelleme Tarihi: 21 Ağustos 2013, 13:46
