At least four people were killed in Cameroon’s Far North Region in an attack attributed to Boko Haram, security sources said on Wednesday.

“Elements of the terrorist group entered the Cameroonian village of Gambarou located between the towns of Waza and Mora, killing at least four villagers and setting fire on 60 houses,” Bouba Dobekreo, a commander of a regional joint force said.

The militants also abducted a 13-year-old in the town of Ashigashi near the Nigerian border, Dobekreo said.

A source in Cameroon’s military intelligence who spoke on condition of anonymity said Boko Haram is preparing major attacks in Cameroon and Nigeria in the coming days.

"Barracks, schools, mosques, churches, bus stations and markets could be targeted," the source warned.

Boko Haram has been weakened in the recent months due to intensified strikes by coalition troops from Nigeria, Niger, Chad and Cameroon. French and U.S. troops are supporting the regional force.

An internal dispute and fights over leadership have also weakened the terror organization.
