Two Egyptian policemen were killed and eight others injured in a bomb blast in the Sinai Peninsula late Thursday, a security source has said.
"An explosive device planted by unidentified militant exploded as a security patrol was passing in western Arish city in North Sinai," the source told Anadolu Agency.
There has been no claim of responsibility for the attack, for which Egyptian authorities have yet to comment.
For the past year, the Egyptian army has waged a major offensive against militant groups said to be based in Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, which shares borders with both Israel and the blockaded Gaza Strip.
The region has seen a spate of attacks by unknown militants on security personnel since last year's ouster of Mohamed Morsi – Egypt's' first freely elected president – by the army.
