Angry Christians broke into the central prison in Bangui, the capital of the Central African Republic (CAR), and killed five ex-seleka soldiers who were being held for various crimes.

"An angry mob went to Ngaragba prison were several ex-seleka soldiers and anti-balaka militiamen were being jailed for various reasons, broke into the jail and killed five ex-seleka soldiers," Sandou Jean Pierre, the spokesman of the African peacekeeping force, MISCA, told Anadolu Agency.

He said the mob attacked the prison after they found a corpse of a civilian who is believed to have been killed by the ex-seleka soldiers.

"The angry mob broke one of the walls of the prison and several prisoners escaped," added the MISCA spokesman.

"But unfortunately five ex-seleka soldiers were killed," he said, declining to give the exact number of prisoners who were being held inside the jail.
