Egypt calls for 'nuclear-free Middle East' conference

Egyptian government made a call for the gathering of an international conference to discuss clearing the Middle East from nuclear weapons.

According to a statement released from Egypt's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Minister Mohamed Kamel Amr came together with Vuk Jeremic, the President of the UN General Assembly who was in Egypt.

The meeting between Jeremic and Amr discussed the topics of Palestine, Syria and clearing Middle East and creating a nuclear-free zone.

In a conference at the UN in May 2010, 189 member countries of the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) have decided to gather a regional meeting to discuss clearing Middle East from nuclear weapons.
