Gunmen in Nigeria have released four Lebanese construction workers a week after they were kidnapped in the southeastern state of Akwa Ibom in the Niger Delta, police said on Saturday.
"The four Lebanese have been released. They are now on their way to Government House in Uyo (Akwa Ibom's state capital)," Akwa Ibom state police commissioner Walter Rugbere said.
It was not immediately clear if a ransom was paid.
Kidnappings for ransom are common in the Niger Delta, home to Africa's biggest oil and gas industry, with hundreds of incidents reported each year. Most victims are released unharmed after a couple of days.
Foreign firms in the Niger Delta, ranging from oil and construction to telecoms, are forced to spend millions of dollars a year on security for their staff because of the high crime rate.
