Head of Tunisian presidential guard to appear in court

The official in charge of security for Tunisia's ousted president is to appear in court on charges of fomenting violence and threatening national security, state television reported on Sunday.

Ali Seriati was head of security for President Zine al-Abidine Ben Ali, who was forced from office on Friday.

"The ex-head of presidential security will appear before a court for having created division among the people, threatened national security and provoked armed violence among Tunisians," state television said.

Ben Ali fled the country on Friday after 23 years of autocratic rule in Tunisia. His downfall came after a month of angry street protests over corruption, repression and high unemployment in the North African country.
