Gbagbo has agreed to further talks over a bitter election dispute with rival Alassane Ouattara, regional bloc ECOWAS said.

Ivory Coast's Laurent Gbagbo has agreed to further talks over a bitter election dispute and has promised to lift a blockade around the temporary headquarters of rival Alassane Ouattara, regional bloc ECOWAS said on Tuesday.

"Mr. Laurent Gbagbo agreed to negotiate a peaceful end to the crisis without any preconditions. He also pledged to immediately lift the blockade around Hotel Du Golf, the temporary headquarters of Mr. Alassane Ouattara," ECOWAS said in a communique.

ECOWAS must not negotiate to remove people who do not have respect of the majority. Why should people of Ivory Coast be demeaned by one person who decided to dictate even if the public has made a choice.

Gbagbo should respect people's votes and step down. If he decided not to do so let him be removed without negotiating. When he got into power nobody disputed the votes of the Ivorians, therefore he should not dispute what the public has said in the last elections.
