A Muslim Brotherhood leader confirmed on Thursday that there were no contacts to arrange a meeting with visiting UN Under-Secretary-General for Political Affairs Jeffrey Feltman.
"We have not received any contact from the UN Under-Secretary-General," Amr Darrag, a senior Brotherhood leader and former minister, told the Anadolu Agency.
"There might have been efforts to reach Muslim Brotherhood leaders but the current situation did not allow that."
Feltman arrived in Cairo on Tuesday for talks with Egyptian officials on the country's current state of unrest.
In statements on Wednesday, Feltman said he was in Egypt to listen to Egyptians to better understand how the UN can assist the country.
Earlier this week, a high-profile diplomatic source at the UN told the AA that Feltman's visit aimed to look into ways that the international body might help Egypt's rival factions find a solution to the political standoff.
Egypt has been in turmoil since the army ousted elected President Mohamed Morsi after mass demonstrations against him.Güncelleme Tarihi: 22 Ağustos 2013, 16:59
