A suspected suicide bomber blew herself up at a college of education in Kontagora, a major town on the southern bank of the Kontagora River in Niger State, killing herself and injuring at least three others.
"The lone suicide bomber, a female, died and injured three others when she detonated the bomb," Ibrahim Gambari, a police spokesman for Niger State, told Anadolu Agency by phone.
"Anti-bomb experts have been deployed to the scene," he added.
Nigeria's National Emergency Management Agency confirmed the attack to AA earlier.
"The explosion occurred less than an hour ago," Ishaya Chonoko, the agency's coordinator for the north-central region, had told AA. "But we don't have details yet."
Kontagora is the town in which the Nigerian Army's counterinsurgency training unit is relocated.
The blast comes only two days after a suicide bomber killed at least 47 people, mostly schoolchildren, in Nigeria's northeastern town of Potiskum in Yobe State.
