Somali pirates seized a Yemeni fishing boat off the coast of the Arabian peninsular state, taking its crew of seven Yemeni fisherman with them, Yemen's Defence Ministry website said on Friday.
Yemen's coastguard said the pirates captured the ship, named al-Dhafir, while it was docked at a Yemeni island in the Red Sea and had taken it to Somalia. The coastguard was continuing its efforts to retrieve the boat, the Defence Ministry website said.
Somali pirates have increased their attacks in recent months, making tens of millions of dollars in ransoms by hijacking ships in the Indian ocean.
