The Tunisian government announced on Tuesday it had captured over eight "terrorist" financiers in the western Chaambi Mountains near the Algerian border.
In a statement, the Interior Ministry said that the detained people had provided supplies and logistical assistance to a "terrorist cell" in the Chaambi Mountains.
"The [arrested] group used to provide the terrorists with information on sensitive locations," the statement said.
Last month, Tunisian President Moncef Marzouki declared the Chaambi Mountains and adjacent areas "closed military zone."
Since last July, the Tunisian army has been carrying out operations against militants holed up in the Chambi Mountains. The army says it is searching for "terrorists" accused of killing eight Tunisian soldiers in an earlier attack.
No specific date has been set for the end of the military operations in the area.Last Mod: 07 Mayıs 2014, 10:15
