The massive oil spill ravaging the U.S. Gulf coast is the biggest environmental disaster the United States has ever faced, top White House energy adviser Carol Browner said on Sunday.
Browner's comments come after BP announced on Saturday that its "top kill" effort to help contain Gulf oil spill had failed.
BP will know by the end of the week whether its latest plan to contain the oil gushing into the Gulf Mexico is successful, BP Managing Director Bob Dudley said on NBC's "Meet the Press" on Sunday.
Dudley also said he did not think BP Chief Executive Tony Hayward should resign once the Gulf spill is contained.
