U.S. Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Martin Dempsey is set to arrive in Israel on Sunday for talks with a host of senior Israeli officials.
During his three-day visit, Dempsey will meet with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Israeli Defense Minister Moshe Ya’alon as well as his Israeli counterpart Gen. Benny Gantz.
The talks are expected to address the situation in Syria, Egypt, the Iranian nuclear program and Israeli-U.S. military and security cooperation.
The U.S. Department of Defense said in a Saturday statement that the visit, the fifth by Dempsey as chairman, demonstrates the United States' unwavering commitment to Israel’s security.
“The focus of the chairman’s discussions with his counterparts will be on issues of mutual strategic interest, while continuing to build on this important defense relationship,” said Col. Ed Thomas, spokesman for the chairman.
