US says BP begins 'top kill' to plug oil spill

U.S. Interior Secretary Ken Salazar said on Wednesday BP has begun its "top kill" procedure to plug its leaking oil well in the Gulf of Mexico.

"I am going to watch this happening with the top kill," Salazar told reporters as he left a congressional hearing on the oil spill.

Salazar said he did not know how long it would take BP workers to plug the leaking well.

"It depends on what kind of difficulties they encounter as they move forward with the execution" of the plan to stop the leak, he said.
