The United States would still be interested in reviving a U.N.-backed nuclear fuel offer for a research reactor in Iran if Tehran takes steps, the State Department said on Monday.
"We are still interested in pursuing that offer if Iran is interested," State Department spokesman P.J. Crowley said.
"It would need to be updated because over the course of the last seven months Iran has had its centrifuges operating and one would presume has increased the amount of fuel at its disposal," he said.
White House spokesman Robert Gibbs also said the U.S. still takes seriously that Iran is not living up to international obligations.
Iran has said it would start work on a new uranium enrichment nuclear plant, part of a big expansion of its nuclear program which it says aimed to generate civilian electricity.
