17 people on way to funeral killed in Pak traffic accident

A group of 17 people traveling to a funeral in eastern Pakistan were killed Thursday when their bus collided with a mini-van, officials said.

The victims, who included 13 women and two children, were mostly relatives and were traveling in the eastern province of Punjab, officials said.

More than a dozen people were also injured in the accident, which occurred near Jhang, some 135 kilometres from the provincial capital Lahore, said Kher Mohammed, an official at the local hospital.

Mohammed said the death toll could rise as three of the survivors were in critical condition.
