Algerian courts sentenced Nouerdine Boudiaf, a leader of an Islamist group, to death for killing soldiers, security personnel and civilians, the Med Basin Newsline reported Wednesday.
The courts found Boudiaf guilty following his 2004 arrest. He admitted to attacking security forces.
"I never harmed civilians," Boudiaf said. "I was happy to fight soldiers, the police and the communal guard. It was a fair fight."
Boudiaf is one of the last remaining leaders of the Armed Islamist Group that is seeking an Islamic state in Algeria.
