All schools closed on Monday: Istanbul Governor

Istanbul Governor Muammer Guler said Sunday that all schools in Istanbul will remain closed on Monday due to heavy snowfall.

All disabled and pregnant public employees will be on administrative leave on Monday, Guler indicated.

Schools in northern province of Kastamonu will also be closed for two days while schools in northwestern province of Bursa will be shut down for one day due to bad weather conditions.

Transportation to 700 locations in the province of Kastamonu has been halted due to heavy snowfall.

Schools in eastern province of Tunceli and in Tokat province's Almus town will be closed for two days while schools in western province of Canakkale's Bayramic, Yenice and Can towns and in Mus province's villages will remain closed for one day due to bad weather conditions.

In western province of Canakkale, ferry trips to Gokceada and Bozcaada have been cancelled due to strong winds.

In Istanbul, the Istanbul-Ankara expressway has been partially closed to motor vehicles traffic due to snow. A great portion of Istanbul has been left without electricity on Sunday.

The Kayseri-Erciyes highway that was closed in the morning on Sunday has been re-opened to traffic. Turkish Airlines flights from Istanbul to Kayseri and vice versa were delayed for three hours and forty minutes.

Meanwhile, western province of Mugla is going through winter and spring at the same time. While there is snow at high altitudes in Mugla, flowers blossomed in the countryside.
