During the U.N.-meeting, Secretary-General Kofi Annan will be presented a report containing notable messages to Western countries.
The report prepared by the 20-person Wisemen Group and the decisions adopted at the meeting will be announced in a press conference co-hosted by Spanish Prime Minister José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero and his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
According to information Zaman obtained from prime ministry sources, some major points from the report to be presented to Annan are as followed:
In Muslim-majority countries, military interventions carried out by Westerners damage intersociety relations and cause growing indignation and feelings of distrust.
In Muslim countries, the slow pace of social and economic reforms and political restrictions imposed on non-pro-violence dissident groups results in the rise of extremism.
Mechanisms should be developed that will ease tension between religious and ethnic groups and help reconcile these groups, particularly in times of crises.
Joint initiatives should be launched to produce films and TV programs that will show diversity as a natural quality of a society.
The media's influence on public opinion could help build bridges among societies.
Inter-culture and human rights education should be promoted to have students in different countries develop a positive understanding of other cultures and religions.
Social networks should be developed to support integration of immigration populations and inter-culture dialogue.
A broad-based employment initiative should be launched for youth in countries where unemployment, segregation and extremism are major problems.
This approach could serve as a renewed effort to tackle today's most controversial political problems.Güncelleme Tarihi: 20 Eylül 2018, 18:16
