Arab culture ministers to meet in Algeria on Sunday

Arab culture ministers will meet on Sunday in a two-day extraordinary session to discuss conditions of material and non-material heritage in the Arab world.

The ministers will also discuss endangered Islamic landmarks such as old Jerusalem and cultural heritage features in Iraq.

The meeting, which will be opened by Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika, will witness presence of most culture ministers of Arab states, except for Iraq, the Comoros and Djibouti.

Senior representatives of main international and regional organizations, namely the Arab League, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization: UNESCO and the Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ALESCO) as well as The Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO) will also attend the meeting.

"Jerusalem as capital of Arab culture for 2009" will top the meeting discussion. The meeting will be in held in Algiers after it was declared the capital of the Arab culture for 2007.
