The Fourth meeting of the preparatory committee for the Arab Economic and Social Development Summit started in Cairo on Tuesday at the level of senior officials from Egypt, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Sudan, Algeria and the Arab League.

The Committee has so far received 253 projects and programs from the Arab ministerial councils and specialized organizations, the League's Assistant Secretary General for Economic Affairs Mohmmad bin Ibrahim Al-Twaijri, told reporters on the sidelines of the meeting.

"The criteria set by the Preparatory Committee would be applied to these projects to choose the best ones to be submitted to the economic summit to be held in Kuwait in 20008," Al-Twaijri said.

He noted that it was agreed that the private sector and the civil society organizations would take part in the preparations of the summit.

For her part the Economic Summit Coordinator Mervat Al-Tellawi, said the Kuwait summit "is the hope to revive the discourse of the Arab integration so that it could affect the Arab citizens." She urged the media to play due role mustering the Arab public opinion to support the summit whose main aim is the "Arab ctizen."
