The latest arsons in which seven cars were torched occurred on Saturday night in Atakent. Witnesses claimed that individuals driving a red Honda Civic arrived at the scene around 10:30 p.m. on Saturday and set fire to five vehicles parked in the area. The suspects later drove to the nearby Karaoğlan Street, where they set two more automobiles ablaze.

The latest arsons came soon after İstanbul Governor Muammer Güler in a statement called on the media not to exaggerate the recent automobile arsons. "The incidents aren't as bad as reflected by the press. You are exaggerating," Güler had said earlier on Saturday.
