Parliamentarians from the member countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) will meet here on Aug. 18-24 to discuss a wide range of regional issues of interest.
Some pressing international issues are also expected to be discussed at the upcoming 28th General Assembly of the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) here, formerly known as the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Organization (AIPO), according to the organizer.
The AIPO was established in 1977 following suggestions by Indonesia's House of representatives with an aim to foster closer friendship and cooperation in various areas among parliamentarians in the region and with the outside world.
It also assists the ASEAN in resolving problems affecting the region and promotes peace and stability and prosperity in the region.
Brunei and Burma are expected to attend the assembly as observers.
