Australia's troops to leave Iraq by June

Australia's 550 combat troops in Iraq were told Wednesday their work was done and they would be home by June.

Australia's troops to leave Iraq by June
Australian troops have been in Iraq since the US-led invasion in 2003.

Armed Forces head Air Chief Marshal Angus Houston said Australia would still be engaged with Iraq through a training programme.

'We will be providing training in Australia,' he said. 'We'll have places at the staff college for some of the officers from the Iraqi Security Force, and we'll also have some other specific projects that we might pursue with them.'
