Azerbaijan and Russia sign bilateral military action plan

Azerbaijani Defense Minister Safar Abiyev and his Russian counterpart Anatoly Serdyukov signed "The Bilateral Military Action Plan" for 2008 in Baku on Wednesday.

Speaking before the signing ceremony, Abiyev described military cooperation between Azerbaijan and Russia as successful. "I hope your visit will give a boost to further development of military and technical cooperation between our countries", he noted.

Commenting on military and political situation in the region, the Azeri Minister said it is continuing to remain "complex and tense because of Armenia's aggressive policy".

He said Armenia has not yet fulfilled four UN Security Council resolutions on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

"I express my regret over the fact the Commonwealth of Independent States has not yet condemned Armenia's aggression...", Abiyev stressed.

On Gabala radar station, the Minister said it is Azerbaijan's property and no country may use it without his country's permission.

Russian Defense Minister Anatoly Serdyukov said he believes bilateral relations between Russia and Azerbaijan will continue developing.

Earlier in the day, the two ministers laid flowers at the tomb of Azerbaijani nationwide leader Heydar Aliyev, and paid respect to Azerbaijani shehids.
