Blast hits foreign troops convoy Afghan major road

A suicide car bomber attacked a convoy of foreign troops on a major road in the east of the Afghan capital on Tuesday, two days before presidential elections, police and witnesses said.

A Reuters reporter saw thick black smoke rising from the area and police rushing what appeared to be two badly wounded people from the scene of the attack, on the road linking Kabul with the eastern city of Jalalabad.

Ambulances rushed to the scene and a large British military vehicle blocked the road.

Earlier on Tuesday, a Taliban rocket struck the grounds of the presidential palace in Kabul and another hit the police headquarters.

Neither caused casualties.

Witnesses said it appeared Tuesday's suicide car bomb was in an area near Kabul's Customs House near a large British base.
