A suicide bomber driving a lorry packed with explosives has blown himself up in the northern Iraqi city of Kirkuk, killing at least 13 people and wounding more than 100, police said.

A stringof northern Iraqi towns have been hit in the past 10 days by bombings thathave killed hundreds of people.

In otherincidents, the bodies of 19 men from a mostly Shia village seized by armed menat a fake checkpoint north of Baghdadwere found on Monday.

Policesaid all the men had been shot in the head in one of the biggestsuch incident in months.

US commanders say more attacks are taking placeoutside Baghdadbecause of a nearly seven-week-old crackdown in the capital.

Childcasualties

Policesaid the attacker in Kirkukon Monday targeted the police criminal investigation department.

BrigadierGeneral Sarhat Qadir, a local police spokesman, said the bomber rammed hisvehicle into the concrete blast barriers surrounding the police station anddetonated the explosives, hidden under a load of flour.

Onewoman, holding her screaming daughter and son, said: "I was preparinglunch for my children when the explosion happened. I thought the house wasgoing to collapse."

Qadirtold the Associated Press that 13 people were killed, seven houses destroyedand 35 cars set ablaze by the blast. He said the toll was expected to rise.

He alsosaid 137 were wounded and that at least 20 children who had been playingoutside at a nearby school were among the casualties but could not provide abreakdown.

Anotherpolice official, Brigadier Torhan Abdul-Rahman, told Reuters that six peoplewere killed and more than 100 people wounded.

Attackershave increasingly used truck bombs in recent months.

A truckbomb in the northern town of Tal Afarlast Tuesday killed 152 people, making it the deadliest single attack of thefour-year-old war.

Baghdad bombing

Also onMonday, a car parked in a garage exploded in Baghdad, killing at least three people andwounding 10, police said.

The blasttook place about 10am (07:00 GMT) near a government property registrationagency in the Bayaa neighbourhood, an area with a mixed population of Sunnisand Shias in western Baghdad.

Policesaid five cars and nearby buildings were damaged.
