Wartime Bosnian Serb security chief Stojan Zupljanin was arrested near Belgrade on Wednesday, a source at the prosecutor's office said.
"He was arrested today near Belgrade," said an official at the war crimes prosecutor's office, who declined to be named.
There was no independent confirmation of the arrest.
Zupljanin, a commander in the city of Banja Luka during the 1992-95 Bosnia war, is charged with killing Muslim and Croat civilians.
He was one of four top fugitives indicted by the Hague and still at large 13 years after the war ended. Their arrest and handover has been a condition for Serbia's advancement towards membership of the European Union.
