The Bulgarian parliament approved a bill on a cabinet reshuffle, appointing new ministers of justice, economy and energy, and making a change in the former Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, the state-run BTA news agency reported.

After a four-hour debate, lawmakers approved the bill, proposed by Prime Minister Sergey Stanishev, on personal and structural changes in the government, the report said.

Miglena Techeva and Petar Dimitrov were officially appointed new ministers of justice and economy and energy, in replacement of Georgi Petkanov and Rumen Ovcharov.

Former Agriculture Minister Nihat Kabil retained the portfolio to head the new Ministry of Agriculture and Food, a transformation from the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry.

The shake-up doesn't change the power balance in the cabinet, as the new comers respectively succeed their party colleagues. It could be considered a gesture on the part of Bulgaria to fight against serious corruption in the country, which has been criticized by the European Union.
