'Court ruling not legal but political': Turk opposition
Leader of the opposition Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) Devlet Bahceli said on Thursday that a decision of Turkey's highest court annulling a constitutional amendment which allowed headscarves in universities "is not a legal but a political decision."

Bahceli said the high court decision "only deepened a social wound which had been pushed to further deadlock."

"It is politically unacceptable that the constitutional amendment be considered as a move against the basic principles of the state," Bahceli said.

Bahceli also warned that the high court decision would "speed up the division and the polarization of the Turkish society on the grounds of faith."

"The court's authority is limited with examining a constitutional amendment in form. This authority which is clearly defined in the Constitution, is overstepped," Bahceli said.
