"Lack of intercultural dialogue is one of the fundamental problems in the world," said Emine Erdogan while addressing the two-day international conference in Azerbaijan on "Increasing Women's Role in Intercultural Dialogue".

Erdogan said inter-cultural dialogue could only be improved with the contribution of women that constituted half of the world population, adding that, "developments in international arena revealed the need for dialogue and compromise."

Referring to Turkey's "Alliance of Civilizations" joint initiative with Spain, Erdogan said, "none of the societies should be contended with its own historical experiences, resources and facilities. We should know each other better, have dialogue and perceive each other well. None of us want suffering, tears, hatred and enmity."

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev's wife Mehriban Aliyeva, who addressed the same conference, said the problems would be solved in a shorter time if they were considered from the point of view of women.

President Ilham Aliyev, who relayed a message to the conference, said women assume a significant role in solution of social problems.
