'Exports of textile, ready-to-wear exceeded $20 bln': Turkish Minister

Turkish State Minister Kursad Tuzmen said on Wednesday exports of textile and ready-to-wear clothing have exceeded 20 billion U.S. dollars in the first 11 months of 2007.

Taking the floor at the inauguration of Istanbul Fashion Academy, Tuzmen said the opening of the academy was an important step to make Istanbul one of the foremost fashion centers in the world.

"Turkish designers will not need to study at academies or universities in foreign countries. They will prefer to study at Istanbul Fashion Academy," he affirmed.

In regard to export figures of textile sector, Tuzmen said, "exports of textile products increased by 17 percent and exports of ready-to-wear clothing products rose by 16 percent in 2007, when compared to 2006."
