Sergey Shamba, "Foreign minister" of Abkhazia, is holding meetings in capital Ankara.

Abkhazia, which unilaterally declared its independence from Georgia, is not recognized in international area.

Shamba arrived in Ankara upon an invitation by Caucasus-Abkhazia Solidarity Committee.

Shamba, holding a press conference at Hilton Hotel, said that they would be pleased to develop relations with Turkey where many Abkhaz people were living.

Shamba said that he met officials from Russian Embassy in Ankara earlier in the day, noting that he will later meet with members of Abkhazian diaspora.

Shamba said that he and accompanying delegation did not have any scheduled meeting with officials from Turkish government or foreign ministry.

Shamba said that Turkey had a special importance for them because many Abkhaz people were living in Turkey.
