French centrist Bayrou not to vote for Sarkozy
French centrist Francois Bayrou, who came third in the first round of the French presidential elections on April 22 with 6.8 million votes, said here Thursday that he would not vote for conservative candidate Nicolas Sarkozy in the second and final round of the elections on May 6.

Speaking to the Thursday edition of the French "Le Monde" newspaper a day after the heated televised debate on Wednesday night between Sarkozy and Socialist contender Segolene Royal, Bayrou affirmed that he would not vote for Sarkozy when asked for who he will vote.

Bayrou declared last week that he would not come out in support of either candidate in the second round of the elections on Sunday, leaving it up to his supporters to freely decide between conservative Sarkozy and Royal.

He also declared that he intends to form a new "Democratic Party" before the next legislative elections in June. Meanwhile, Bayrous confirmation that he will not vote for Sarkozy seems to be an indirect hint that he will be voting for Royal especially that he praised her performance in the debate that was watched by over 20 million people last night.
