Germany praises Turkish citizens' role in economy amid crisis

German Minister for Labour and Social Security Olaf Sholz said Friday that around 70,000 enterprizes owned by Germany's Turkish citizens made an annual contribution of 30 Billion Euro to a struggling German economy.

In his address at an event titled "Germany Turkish Economy Day" hosted by European Turkish Businessmen and Industrialists Association in Dusselforf, Sholz said SMEs played a crucial role at a time of financial crisis.

Sholz who addressed a large group of politicians, businessmen and entrepreneurs said he expected more vocational courses for young immigrants to be opened in order to enable them open up their own businesses.

Sholz also said he believed university degrees and vocational certificates obtained by immigrants from foreign universities and institutions should be recognized in Germany in order to give them more employment opportunities.

Commenting on relations with Turkey, Sholz said he supported Turkey's EU bid.
