Nearly 300 suggestions from six continents have come in so far. People will be able to vote by internet, mobile phone or telephone, according to the organiser, New7Wonders.

Among the suggestions for natural wonders already received are places like Egypt's Mount Sinai, Mount Everest, Ireland's Cliffs of Moher, Australia's Ayers Rock, Russia's Lake Baikal, Ecuador's Galapagos Islands, Vietnam's Ha Long Bay and Tanzania's Serengeti National Park.

Organizers hope to generate "respect and enthusiasm" for the planet's beauty. The seven winners will be announced in late 2010, said Bernard Weber, founder of New7Wonders.

Over 100 million people participated in the first contest for the best seven structural wonders, which concluded in July.

Chosen as manmade wonders were Jordan's Petra, India's Taj Mahal, the Great Wall of China, Roman's Colloseum, Peru's Machu Picchu, Brazil's Statue of Christ Redeemer, and Mexico's Chichen Itza pyramid.

The new wonders should be places with striking natural beauty, Weber said. "The closer we bring the beauty of our planet ... to the people, the more likely they will say, 'Oh, we have to do something to conserve it,'" Weber said.
