Prior to the press conference, related ministries of Turkey and Senegal signed a Cultural Cooperation Agreement and a Protocol on Technical, Scientific & Economic Cooperation in Agriculture.

Gul expressed pleasure that a Senegalese President pays a formal visit to Turkey for the first time.

"We have exchanged views about the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) Summit which will be hosted by Senegal three weeks later," said Gul.

Noting that Turkish International Cooperation & Development Agency (TIKA) has offices in Africa, Gul said that these offices are helping to solve problems of Africa.

Gul invited Wade to Turkey-Africa summit which will be held in Istanbul this summer; and Wade accepted this invitation.

Gul wanted Turkish and Senegalese public and private sectors to cooperate more.

Senegalese President Abdoulaye Wade said that they want to develop Turkey-Senegal relations, and called Turkish private sector to invest in Senegal which is considered as a door to Africa.

Wade said that trade volume between Turkey and Senegal is very low. He said that they want to establish a joint commission between the two countries.

Recalling that Turkish International Cooperation & Development Agency (TIKA) opened an office in Dakar, Wade said that TIKA works on many areas like education, industry and commerce, and he expressed pleasure over this.

Wade reminded that Senegal will host Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) Summit between March 13th and 14th, adding that all leaders he invited to the summit have responded positively so far.

Wade said that clashes in African continent decreased, adding that several problems like Darfur and Chad-Sudan tension remained in the continent, and they are trying to solve them.

Senegalese President congratulated Turkey for its Alliance of Civilization Initiative, adding that this initiative is very important. He also said that he will participate in a summit on African countries in Istanbul.
