Gunmen ambushed a British military supply convoy in the southern Iraqi city of Basra on Monday in a clash that left a fuel tanker ablaze and at least one badly burned body on the street.
"At about 3:15 pm (1115 GMT) a British convoy came under attack from small arms fire as a result of that a petrol tanker caught fire," a British military spokeswoman said. "One British soldier was evacuated from the scene."
She was unable to give any details about other casualties.
