Hamas will distribute one-hundred US dollars and food aid to 78,000 Gazan families on the occasion of Ramadan, Maan news agency said.
Among Muslims, fasting on Ramadan, the ninth of the 12-month lunar Hijrah calendar is a month-long period of spiritual renewal and physical cleansing, a season for self-restraint in reaffirming the faith.
Minister of Labor of the Gaza government Ahmad Al Kurd was quoted as saying the donations would be handed out to those registered in the revamped government databases that record the unemployed and poor families of the Strip, the report said.
The names of the families will be published on Gaza Ministry of Labor's website.
Distributions to the first 12,000 families will be completed Sunday, the report said.
Muslims fast during daytime, starting at dawn until dusk. Muslims realize the one-month period as an opportunity for inward-looking, purification of the soul and the body, enhancing social relations and promoting assistance to the poor.
