the Islamic Resistance Movement, Hamas, deprecated what it described as "flagrant and condemned Israeli intervention in a purely Palestinian internal affair", urging the Palestinian people to stand up against such "barbaric" acts.
In a statement it issued Sunday, and a copy of which was faxed to the PIC, Hamas chided the Israeli cabinet decision on Sunday of deleting names of its aspirants from the ballot papers in the occupied holy city, affirming "The Israeli step, which was sanctioned by the United States and its allies, is indeed unmasking the kind of democracy the US administration wants in the region, which brings to power people dancing with the American and Israeli dictates".
The Movement stressed that the Palestinian people must be left free in choosing its representatives away from any external or internal pressures, urging, at the same time, the PA along with all Palestinian factions to categorically condemn the Israeli deeds and defy them.
It expressed full confidence in the prudent Palestinian voters and their determination in defying and foiling the Israeli measures against the occupied city and its sincere people by giving their votes to the Movement's candidates in the city and all over the occupied Palestinian lands.
"Hamas reaffirms its stand of shielding the Palestinian national constants and legal rights, and full adherence to the resistance option, emphasizing that all the Israeli measures will not be able to budge the Movement away from those principles or weaken it in sacrificing everything precious in service to the Palestinian people and the Palestinian issue", the statement underlined.
The IOF on Sunday apprehended and manhandled three of Hamas contestants in occupied Jerusalem, including Sheikh Mohammed Abu Tair, the number-two man on Hamas party list, Sheikh Ahmed Atton, and Sheikh Mohammed Tutah while trying to hold a press conference near the Aqsa Mosque.
