Nearly 80 tones of crude oil spilled from a tanker floating in international waters of the Black Sea caused a major pollution and now threatens Turkey after Bulgaria, Bulgarian police said on Friday.
Satellite pictures showed huge oil spots floating on the water just 80 kilometers away from Bulgarian coast, Bulgarian officials said.
"Wind blows from northeast and oil is a threat for Turkey, more than Bulgaria," said Atanas Balazov, a Bulgarian professor at Varna Marine Institute.
Bulgarian media reported that the oil spilled from an unknown tanker. The amount of oil was around 80 tones according to Russian experts who spotted the oil spill a few days ago by the help of satellite pictures.
