Hundreds of people had to sleep the night at Frankfurt International Airport after thunderstorms caused repeated delays in take-offs, officials said Friday.
Airport spokesman Wolf-Dieter Schaller said camping beds were put up in the terminals to make the passengers comfortable, while airlines paid for some to stay in hotels.
On Thursday, squalls and lightning led to 123 arrivals and 119 departures being cancelled, affecting 30,000 passengers, who either had to be rebooked to other flights or wait for their planes to be given new take-off time-slots.
More delays were expected with bad weather continuing, exacerbated by a rush of outward-bound vacationers at the start of school holidays in the region.
