Ihsanoglu said if it is not stopped, it will constitute a serious threat against world peace and stability as well as people from all cultures and beliefs.
The International Conference on Islamophobia has started at Grand Cevahir Hotel in Istanbul.
Noting that efforts of governments against Islamophobia are not enough alone, Ihsanoglu said that academicians, media members, writers, poets, artists and all intellectuals should undertake active roles in fight against Islamophobia as well as efforts to degrade Islam.
Ihsanoglu said that several European parliamentarians have started to establish relations with parliamentarians in Islamic world. He wanted parliaments at Islamic countries should be inspired with this policy and hold meetings with western parliamentarians to have them a more correct point of view towards this issue.
Ihsanoglu reminded that an Islamophobia Follow-up Center was set up under OIC to struggle against campaigns which target to degrade Islamic religion and also against Islamophobia.
