'Iran not afraid of US turning nuclear data to IAEA'

Iran is not concerned at the decision by the United States to turn over classified nuclear data to the UN nuclear watchdog, Foreign Ministry spokesman Mohammad-Ali Hosseini said Sunday.

"They should present whatever they have to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and the IAEA should decide what to do with it," the spokesman said in his weekly press briefing.

The US claims its intelligence data proves that Iran was working on an atomic bomb before 2003.

"We are sure the Americans have nothing, otherwise they would have already presented (the information) and created a poisonous atmosphere against Iran." Hosseini said.

"The Americans are more aware than anybody else that Iran's nuclear programmes are peaceful," the spokesman added.

A US National Intelligence Estimate published in December said Iran had stopped its nuclear weapons programme in 2003.
