Foreign airlines say they will stop flying to Israel if radio frequency interruption from illegal radio stations isn`t stopped.
The illegal broadcasts interrupt communications between the Ben Gurion Airport control tower and planes landing and taking off.
The interrupted communications are a safety hazard and hurt the airlines financially because they force planes to wait in the air or sit on the ground for more than two hours at a time, Ynetnews reported Sunday.
'It is inconceivable that civil aviation should face such dangers in a Western country without anything being done about it,' said an airline official.
The disturbances are a regular problem and worsen depending on the weather condition, said an official of the Israel Airport Authority.
'Dozens of radio stations interfere with control tower radio frequency,' the Aviation official said. The radio station operators are fined for interference, he said.
