The troops fired tear-gas shells and rubber-coated steel bullets to disperse the demonstrators after some of them threw rocks at the soldiers.

A Palestinian photographer was wounded.

He was shot in the head by a rubber-coated bullet.

The activists joined local residents to mark the third anniversary of the beginning of weekly protests against Israel's separation barrier.

The Palestinians say the separation wall is an attempt to grab their land and undermine the viability of their promised state.

Hundreds of foreign peace activists and Palestinians demonstrate at least once a week against the separation barrier.
