Israeli forces arrested early on Tuesday spokesman of the parliamentary Fatah bloc Jamal Al-Tirawi in the refugee camp of Balata near the West Bank town of Nablus, security sources said.
The sources said the troops, after encircling Al-Tirawi's residence in the shanty town, burst into it, detained him along with eight persons who were inside the house.
Al-Tirawi is known as a leading member of Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades, the military wing of Fatah. He has been chased by the Israelis since start of the Palestinian uprising.
He is the first Fatah parliamentarian to be arrested by the Israelis since parliamentary elections in 2006.
Israel has recently arrested 42 legislators of the Hamas movement, in addition to Education Minister Nasser Al-Shaer and Minister of State Wasfi Qubbaha.
