Israeli leader may face 2nd rape charge

Attorney General Meni Mazuz notified President MosheKatsav's lawyers on Sunday that he is considering adding a second rape chargeto the draft indictment he is preparing against the president, the JusticeMinistry said.

The same woman who initially accused Katsav of rape broughtnew allegations against him, the Ministry said in a release. Katsav underwentmore than two hours of police questioning at his Jerusalem residence last week in connectionwith the new charges.

In January, Mazuz announced his intention to indict the president on chargesof rape, sexual assault and fraud involving four women who used to work forhim. Katsav, who denies all wrongdoing, has taken a leave of absence from hisceremonial position, but has refused to resign.

Following standard practice in charges involving senior officials, Katsavwill have a last chance to state his case before Mazuz before an indictment isfiled. The hearing is scheduled for May 2.

Katsav's seven-year term is set to expire later this year.
