Egypt signed an agreement with Lebanon to supply electricity from Egypt via Jordan and Syria, a local daily newspaper reported on Tuesday.
Lebanese Minister of Energy and Water Resources Alain Tabourin said that under the agreement, Egypt is scheduled to transfer around 450 megawatts of electricity to Lebanon, daily for one-year term, reported Bernama.
A Lebanese work team will visit Egypt to discuss the cost, Tabourian said.
Lebanon had earlier asked Egypt, Syria and Jordan, which constitute part of the joint-electric grid project also connecting Iraq, Libya and Turkey, to provide it with electric power.
Jordan also promised to provide Lebanon with 50 to 70 megawatts electric power on daily basis up to the end of 2009.
